Why Seismos?

Some readers may wonder why this blog is named Seismos.  Mainly, it is because the ancient Greek word for earthquake, as described at length in my book Ancient Greek Seismology (free PDF here).

But Seismos was also the name of Mintrop's seismic exploration company, the world's first.  Browsing through a 1949 copy of Geophysics, I came across this author biography of Ludger Mintrop.  There were giants in those days.
