I saw a BBC plot of US cases and deaths that seems to demonstrate a lag of about one month between the case count and the death count. Exploring the data I came up with a ratio of active cases to deaths, both cumulative. Not sure what this means exactly -- number of active cases per death -- but it is clear that things are getting better when this ratio is declining and getting worse when it is increasing.
